ORIENTATION SCHEDULES AT A GLANCE
First-Year Students – Day 1
- Check-in & Residence Hall Move-In: Students check-in for event, pick up room key, and drop off luggage in residence hall room
- Welcome: Welcome from university leadership and Orientation staff introductions
- Orientation Group Meetings: Students meet with Orientation Leaders and other group members
- Community Expectations: Community Standards will discuss policies and services
- Academic Advising: Academic expectations reviewed by school/college/program advising staff and students advised on courses for upcoming semester
- Lunch at the Dining Hall
- Protect Our Pack: Students participate in our university bystander intervention training program and learn effective methods to intervening in a problem situation
- Around UConn: Students will visit with various university offices and learn about resources and services
- Dinner at the Dining Hall
- Celebrating You @ UConn: Diversity, equity, and inclusion exercise with student orientation groups
- Evening Entertainment: Social activities and time to meet and connect with other students
First-Year Students – Day 2
- Breakfast at the Dining Hall
- First Year Programs: Students will learn about the programs and services that make up this area
- Course Registration: Registration for classes with school/college/program advising staff
- Lunch at the Dining Hall
- Living on Campus: Information shared about living in the residence halls, the room selection process, life with a roommate, and other residential resources
- Student Activities 101: Overview of Student Activities area and information about how to get involved in organizations, Greek Life, Community Outreach, and more
- Orientation Group Meetings: Final meeting with group and Orientation Leader
- Closing Ceremony: Join your fellow huskies to celebrate your completion of Orientation
- Optional Campus Tours: Students and their family members can participate in a guided tour of campus with one of our knowledgeable student tour guides
Transfer Students
- Check-in: Students check-in for event
- Welcome: Welcome from university leadership and Orientation staff introductions
- Academic Advising & Course Registration: Academic expectations reviewed, students advised on courses for the upcoming semester, and registration of classes with school/college/program advising staff
- Lunch at the Dining Hall
- Protect Our Pack: Students participate in our university bystander intervention training program and learn effective methods to intervening in a problem situation
- Living on Campus or Off-Campus Living & Commuting: Students will choose to attend a session about living on or commuting to campus. In the Living on Campus session, information is shared about living in the residence halls, the room selection process, life with a roommate, and other residential resources. At the Off-Campus Living & Commuting session, students will learn about commuter resources and services
- Academic Achievement Center: Students will learn about the resources and services offered by this center
- Health & Wellness: Overview of important documentation, requirements, and resources from Student Health & Wellness
- Celebrating You @ UConn: Diversity, equity, and inclusion exercise with student orientation groups
- Closing Ceremony: Join your fellow huskies to celebrate your completion of Orientation

- Academics at UConn or Honors: Advising and One Stop or the Honors staff will review academic related terminology, processes, services and resources
- One Card: Overview of the student ID card
- Lunch
- Information Expo: Staff will be available from various university offices to answer questions and share resources
- Money Matters: One Stop and the Bursar staff will review financial policies, procedures and resources
- Campus Safety: University Safety will discuss campus safety and personal awareness
- Choose Your Own Adventure: Opportunity for family members to choose from multiple sessions: First Year Programs, Living on Campus, or Dining @ UConn
- Closing: We'll wrap up the program and answer any final questions

- Optional Campus Tour (begins at 8:00am EST): Family members can participate in a guided tour of campus with one of our knowledgeable student tour guides
- Welcome: Welcome from university leadership and Orientation staff introductions
- Transition to College & Expectations: The Dean of Students office will share tips for how to best support students during this time of transition

First-Year Student Orientation
Orientation is a 2-day overnight program required for all first-year students at UConn Storrs. You will connect with peers and administrators in person, stay in a residence hall overnight, learn about campus resources, experience academic advising, and register for courses.

Students in the Center for Access & Postsecondary Success (CAPS) Summer Program must attend sessions 1-6
Students in the Honors Program are strongly encouraged to attend Sessions 1-12

International Student Orientation
We host a 2-day Orientation program for international students. You will connect with peers and administrators, learn about campus resources, participate in academic advising, and register for courses if you have not already done so virtually over the summer.
There is 1 session for UConn Storrs international students on:

Families of First-Year Students
Family Orientation takes place on day one of your student's Orientation program. If you have a conflict with that date, you are welcome to attend another Family Orientation session throughout the summer. We do not offer a Family Orientation during International Orientation in August.
