ORIENTATION SCHEDULES AT A GLANCE

First-Year Day 1

  • New Student Check-In Students will check-in for event, and be split into different OL Groups; parking validation will be given
  • Welcome Welcome from university leadership and Orientation staff introductions
  • Huskies in the Room Orientation Leaders and new Huskies will play a game of "who in the room?"
  • New Connections: OL Activities Students will get the opportunity to engage in social activities and connect with other students
  • Celebrating you @ UConn Diversity, equity, and inclusion exercise with student orientation groups
  • Office of Student Services Students will learn about Center for Students with Disabilities, UConn Mental Health Wellness and Dean of Students
  • Lunch
  • OL "Tell All" Orientation Leaders will address all things UConn Hartford with the New Huskies
  • Advising and Registration Academic expectations reviewed by our advising staff and students advised on courses for upcoming semester

First-Year Day 2

  • Check-In Students will check-in for the 2nd day, and be split into different orientation groups; parking validation will be given
  • Scavenger Hunt Students will get a self-guided tour of the UConn Hartford Campus and community
  • Student Activities Students will get the opportunity to learn more about the importance of being involved on campus
  • FYE & RISE New Students will learn more about how to become a RISE Scholar
  • Protect Our Pack Students participate in our university bystander intervention training program and learn effective methods to intervening in a problem situation
  • Lunch
  • UConn Hartford 101 Our Academic Achievement Center will discuss with students UConn Academics and how to be a successful Husky
  • Advising and Registration Academic expectations reviewed by our advising staff and students will register for the upcoming semester

Transfer Students

  • Check-In Students will check-in for the event, and be split into their different orientation groups; parking validation will be given

  • Campus Tour Our New Huskies will get the opportunity to tour the Hartford Times Building and our other UConn Hartford Academic buildings
  • DEI Activity Orientation Leaders will run a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program
  • Advising and Registration Advisors will present all things advising and students will register for their Spring Schedule
  • Program concludes at 4:00pm EST

First-Year Student Orientation

Orientation is a 2-day program required for all first-year students at UConn Hartford. You will connect with peers and administrators in person, learn about campus resources, participate in academic advising, and register for courses.

Registration for later sessions will open once current sessions are filled to capacity.

First-Year & Transfer Student Orientation

Orientation is a 1-day program required for all new students at UConn Hartford. You will connect with peers and administrators in person, learn about campus resources, participate in academic advising, and register for courses. First-year and transfer students attend Orientation together.

What is Family Orientation? 

Family Orientation is a program designed to educate our husky family members about offices, services, resources and processes that can help you in supporting your student as they transition to UConn.  

What is this Webinar Series about? 

This webinar series is open to family members of all regional campus and international students. The series consists of 9, 1-hour webinars. It was designed with flexibility in mind. So, family members are able to participate live from anywhere when the webinar is scheduled or watch a recording at their leisure.

The College Transition

As a kick-off to our series, learn how to support your UConn student as they navigate the college transition. This session will cover key resources, tips for fostering independence, and ways to stay engaged in their journey.

Privacy @ UConn

Understand student privacy rights under FERPA and how they impact your access to academic, financial, and health information. We’ll discuss what permissions your student can grant and how to navigate privacy policies.

Financial Responsibility

Get an overview of tuition, billing, financial aid, and payment options. Learn strategies to help your student manage their finances and understand their financial responsibilities at UConn.

Disability Services

Discover how UConn supports students with disabilities through accommodation, advocacy and accessibility services. Learn how your student can request accommodations and utilize campus resources.

Student Health and Wellness

Explore the health and wellness services available to UConn Students, including medical care, mental health supporting, and well-being programs. Learn how to encourage your student to prioritize their wellbeing.  

University Safety

Safety is a top priority at UConn. This session will cover campus safety resources, emergency preparedness, and ways students can stay safe while navigating their campus experience 

Understanding Advising

Learn about UConn’s academic advising structure and how your student can connect with advisors to plan their courses and stay on track for graduation. Gain insights on how to support their academic journey.  

Eating in Your Community

Learn how your student can make the most of their experience as they navigate on and off-campus dining experiences. You’ll hear about what options are available to your student so they can maintain healthy eating habits.  

Career Readiness

Discover the career resources available to UConn students, from internships and job opportunities to resume-building and networking. Learn how to encourage your student to take advantage of career services early in their college experience.  

In-Person Family Welcome Event

Each regional campus is also hosting an in-person event where family members of new students are invited to come explore campus, meet staff and administrators, and learn about campus specific programs/resources. Registration for this event will be available mid-May. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with information about parking, event location, etc.

UConn Regional Undergraduate Family Webinar Series

Prior to the Fall 2024 semester, Orientation Services recorded a webinar series designed for family members of all regional campus students. This program was designed to educate our husky family members about offices, services, resources, and processes that can help you in supporting your student as they transition to UConn.

Please be aware that some information in these webinars (i.e. dates) is specific for the fall semester. Updated dates for the spring semester can be found by searching the specific office's website, or contacting that office directly.

Webinar Descriptions

June 11: Privacy @ UConn

University Privacy will provide an overview of FERPA, how students can designate access, and other resources.

June 12: Financial Responsibility

One Stop and the Bursar will discuss payment methods, types of aid, an overview of deadline and other resources.

June 13: Student Health and Wellness

Student Health and Wellness will review required documentation, an overview of their services, and how a family member can support their student.

June 18: University Safety

University Safety will share information about how students can access help and provide insight for how students can remain safe both on campus and in their respective community.

June 19: Disability Services

The Center for Disability Services will discuss the differences between high school and college accommodations, the types of accommodations the university offers, required documentation and the registration process, and other resources.

June 20: Understanding Advising

Advising staff will discuss general degree requirements, the academic calendar, the advising process, the advisor/advisee relationship, transfer credits, and other important information.

June 25: Eating in Your Community

Representatives from each regional campus will review eating options, Husky Harvest, how to plan for dietary accommodations, and other relevant information.

June 26: Career Development

The Center for Career Development will provide an overview of career progression during college, services, and recourse available to students and alumni.

In-Person Family Orientation

There is no in-person Family Orientation program for family members of students beginning at UConn regional campuses in the spring semester. We encourage you to watch the webinar series and reach out to those offices with any specific questions.
