First-Year & Transfer Student Orientation
Orientation is a 1-day program required for all new students at UConn Avery Point. Your Orientation experience will be spent on-campus connecting with peers and administrators in person, learning about campus resources, participating in academic advising, and registering for courses. First-year and transfer students attend Orientation together.

First-Year & Transfer Student Orientation
Orientation is a 1-day program required for all new students at UConn Avery Point. Your Orientation experience will be spent on-campus connecting with peers and administrators in person, learning about campus resources, participating in academic advising, and registering for courses. First-year and transfer students attend Orientation together.
Registration for later sessions will open once current sessions are filled to capacity.

Supporting Your Husky Webinar Series
What is Family Orientation?
Family Orientation is a program designed to educate our husky family members about offices, services, resources and processes that can help you in supporting your student as they transition to UConn.
What is this Webinar Series about?
This webinar series is open to family members of all regional campus and international students. The series consists of 9, 1-hour webinars. It was designed with flexibility in mind. So, family members are able to participate live from anywhere when the webinar is scheduled or watch a recording at their leisure.

The College Transition
As a kick-off to our series, learn how to support your UConn student as they navigate the college transition. This session will cover key resources, tips for fostering independence, and ways to stay engaged in their journey.
Privacy @ UConn
Understand student privacy rights under FERPA and how they impact your access to academic, financial, and health information. We’ll discuss what permissions your student can grant and how to navigate privacy policies.
Financial Responsibility
Get an overview of tuition, billing, financial aid, and payment options. Learn strategies to help your student manage their finances and understand their financial responsibilities at UConn.
Disability Services
Discover how UConn supports students with disabilities through accommodation, advocacy and accessibility services. Learn how your student can request accommodations and utilize campus resources.
Student Health and Wellness
Explore the health and wellness services available to UConn Students, including medical care, mental health supporting, and well-being programs. Learn how to encourage your student to prioritize their wellbeing.
University Safety
Safety is a top priority at UConn. This session will cover campus safety resources, emergency preparedness, and ways students can stay safe while navigating their campus experience.
Understanding Advising
Learn about UConn’s academic advising structure and how your student can connect with advisors to plan their courses and stay on track for graduation. Gain insights on how to support their academic journey.
Eating in Your Community
Learn how your student can make the most of their experience as they navigate on and off-campus dining experiences. You’ll hear about what options are available to your student so they can maintain healthy eating habits.
Career Readiness
Discover the career resources available to UConn students, from internships and job opportunities to resume-building and networking. Learn how to encourage your student to take advantage of career services early in their college experience.
In-Person Family Welcome Event
Each regional campus is also hosting an in-person event where family members of new students are invited to come explore campus, meet staff and administrators, and learn about campus specific programs/resources. Registration for this event will be available mid-May. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with information about parking, event location, etc.

Prior to the Fall 2024 semester, Orientation Services recorded a webinar series designed for family members of all regional campus students. This program was designed to educate our husky family members about offices, services, resources, and processes that can help you in supporting your student as they transition to UConn.

Financial Responsibility
One Stop and the Bursar discussed payment methods, types of aid, an overview of deadline and other resources.
Student Health and Wellness (Presentation Slides)
Student Health and Wellness reviewed required documentation, an overview of their services, and how a family member can support their student.
University Safety
University Safety shared information about how students can access help and provided insight for how students can remain safe both on campus and in their respective community.
Disability Services
The Center for Disability Services discussed the differences between high school and college accommodations, the types of accommodations the university offers, required documentation and the registration process, and other resources.
Understanding Advising
Advising staff discussed general degree requirements, the academic calendar, the advising process, the advisor/advisee relationship, transfer credits, and other important information.
Eating in Your Community
Representatives from each regional campus reviewed eating options, Husky Harvest, how to plan for dietary accommodations, and other relevant information.
Career Development
The Center for Career Development provided an overview of career progression during college, services, and recourse available to students and alumni.
In-Person Family Orientation
There is no in-person Family Orientation program for family members of students beginning at UConn regional campuses in the spring semester. We encourage you to watch the webinar series and reach out to those offices with any specific questions.
