ORIENTATION SCHEDULES AT A GLANCE

First-Year Day 1

  • New Student Check-In Students will be split into different OL Groups; parking validation will be given
  • Introductions and Welcome New Huskies meet UConn Staff and Students
  • Huskies in the Room: 20 Questions Orientation Leaders will ask students "who in this room" questions
  • New Connections: OL Activities Agenda; icebreakers
  • Walk to Graduate Business Learning Center (GBLC) Students will get a glimpse of the Library, Wadsworth, Social Work, GBLC
  • Protect Our Pack Students participate in our university bystander intervention training program and learn effective methods to intervening in a problem situation
  • Lunch
  • OSS Support Services Students will learn about Center for Students with Disabilities, UConn Mental Health Wellness Center, and Dean of Students
  • Walk Back from Graduate Business Learning Center
  • OL "Tell All" Orientation Leaders will address all things UConn Hartford with the New Huskies
  • Advising and Registration Advisors will present new FYE initiative and advising presentations

First-Year Day 2

  • New Student Check-In Students will be split into different OL Groups; parking validation will be given
  • "UConn" Chant Competition Students will be split in half and see who can chant "UConn" the loudest
  • UConn Hartford Tour/ Scavenger Hunt Students will get a tour of the UConn Hartford Campus and community
  • DEI Activity Orientation Leaders will run DEI Programming
  • RISE Scholar Program New Students will learn more about how to become a RISE Scholar
  • Lunch
  • UConn Hartford 101 Our Academic Achievement Center will discuss with students UConn Academics and how to be a successful Husky
  • Advising and Registration Students will be registering for their Fall Schedule
  • Ice Cream/Survey/ID Pick up New Huskies get to taste authentic UConn Ice Cream, Pick-up or submit IDs, and complete survey

  • Program concludes at 4:00pm EST

First-Year Student Orientation

Orientation is a 2-day program required for all first-year students at UConn Hartford. You will connect with peers and administrators in person, learn about campus resources, participate in academic advising, and register for courses.

Orientation is a 1-day program required for all new students at UConn Hartford. You will connect with peers and administrators in person, learn about campus resources, participate in academic advising, and register for courses. First-year and transfer students attend Orientation together.

UConn Regional Undergraduate Family Orientation – Summer 2024

Family Orientation is a program designed to educate our husky family members about offices, services, resources, and processes that can help you in supporting your student as they transition to UConn.

University Privacy will provide an overview of FERPA, how students can designate access, and other resources.

June 12: Financial Responsibility

One Stop and the Bursar will discuss payment methods, types of aid, an overview of deadline and other resources.

June 13: Student Health and Wellness

Student Health and Wellness will review required documentation, an overview of their services, and how a family member can support their student.

June 18: University Safety

University Safety will share information about how students can access help and provide insight for how students can remain safe both on campus and in their respective community.

June 19: Disability Services

The Center for Disability Services will discuss the differences between high school and college accommodations, the types of accommodations the university offers, required documentation and the registration process, and other resources.

June 20: Understanding Advising

Advising staff will discuss general degree requirements, the academic calendar, the advising process, the advisor/advisee relationship, transfer credits, and other important information.

June 25: Eating in Your Community

Representatives from each regional campus will review eating options, Husky Harvest, how to plan for dietary accommodations, and other relevant information.

June 26: Career Development

The Center for Career Development will provide an overview of career progression during college, services, and recourse available to students and alumni.

In-Person Family Orientation

Each regional campus is also hosting an in-person event where family members of new students are invited to come explore campus, meet staff and administrators, and learn about campus specific programs/resources. Registration for this event will be available in the Family Onboarding Portal. Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email with information about parking, event location, etc.
