Transfer Orientation or “Transfermation” 2017 Sign Up

If you have been accepted to the University of Connecticut and will be attending the Storrs campus, the Transfer Orientation or “Transfermation” program for fall admits has been especially designed for you.

June 15 is the deadline to sign up for an Orientation session.

Orientation is Mandatory – If this is your first time as a degree seeking student at the University of Connecticut you are required to attend Orientation in order to register for classes.  There are no exceptions.

  • Dates for the 2017 Transfermation  sessions can be found below. Emails inviting you to make your reservation for Transfermation will start going out on a rolling basis starting in mid-April to all students who have paid the $300 enrollment deposit.
  • In order to access the reservation system you must have received an email inviting you to sign up for orientation.
  • Emails are only sent to students who pay the $300 enrollment deposit.  There is a 48 hour delay from when you pay the deposit online to when you will receive an orientation invitation.
  • Emails are sent to the student’s personal and UConn email addresses.
  • Reservations are accepted on a first-received, first-reserved basis, so be sure to make your reservation before sessions fill up. Please note that you must complete your reservation by the deadline for each session which vary by session date. Sessions can fill up before the reservation deadline, as we can only accommodate a certain number of students per orientation session.
  • Orientation reservations will only be accepted once your $300 enrollment deposit has been received by the University starting in Mid-April.

Cost to Attend

The cost of the one-day Transfer-mation program is $115. This is a non-refundable charge.

  • Lunch
  • Program materials
  • Parking
  • Staffing
  • Programmatic and administrative costs
  • Funds some expenses for the HuskyWOW program (Week of Welcome) for new students that occurs the weekend before classes begin.

Payment Options

All forms of payment must be from a United States affiliated bank.

HOW TO CONFIRM YOUR TRANSFERMATION SESSION Payment at the time the reservation is made confirms your reservation for the desired date.

WHAT HAPPENS IF PAYMENT IS NOT MADE WHEN THE RESERVATION IS MADE If payment is not made at the time the online reservation form is completed the date is still open for other students to reserve. That means you can lose your Orientation date because another student who pays for the session can take it away from you.  If that was the only spot left in the session you selected then you will have to select another Orientation session.

There are three options for payment:

  1. Credit Card – online – through the orientation portal. Orientation Services accepts: Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, Diners Club.  This is the only way you can immediately confirm an Orientation session after making your reservation.
  2. Check or money order – mailed/postal service – all checks and money orders need to be made out to the “University of Connecticut.” For our mailing address, please visit our Contact Us page.  Please note that your orientation reservation is not confirmed until the check is received by the Orientation Office.  In the meantime your Orientation session can be taken away by another student who pays by credit card for that spot.  A $25 fee will be charged for any check that is returned for insufficient funds.
  3. Online Payment Option – If you do your banking electronically, you can make payments directly to UConn through your own bank’s online bill paying system! Set up UConn the same way you would any other payee.  This is not an immediate payment, however because the bank usually sends the Orientation office a check.  In the meantime, the orientation date you selected could be taken away by another student who pays by credit card for that session.

Confirming Your Session

An email confirmation will be sent immediately after you submit your orientation reservation and payment. This email indicates that you are “confirmed” for the session you selected.  Any changes made to your orientation dates after the confirmation email is sent may incur rescheduling fees, regardless of whether the orientation charge has been paid.  Emails are sent to the student’s personal email address that was put on the application for admission.

Contact the Office of Orientation Services at (860) 486-4866 if you haven’t received your email confirmation within 24 hours of submitting your online Orientation reservation.


Please do not make any travel arrangements until you receive an email from the Office of Orientation Services confirming your assigned Orientation session.  Make sure to take note the 5:00 p.m. ending time of the orientation program when you schedule your travel arrangements.  The university is a 45 to 60 minute drive from Bradley International Airport in Hartford/Springfield.

Rescheduling Fees

After a student is sent a session confirmation email, confirmed sessions may only be rescheduled in case of emergency and are based on session availability. There is a $30 rescheduling fee for each request made within five business days of a confirmed orientation session date. Effective dates for the $30 fee are listed below. Selecting an Orientation Session: Overview

  1. Review the “Reservation Notes” section, if you have been:
    a) Admitted to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences OR b) Are a student in the GAP (Guaranteed Admissions) Program
  2. Select a session when your School/College meets because during orientation you will register for classes with academic advisors from that school/college. Make sure that if you are part of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) that your session choices correspond to the “Reservation Notes” for students in CLAS
  3. GAP Program Students (Guaranteed Admissions Program) should make a reservation to attend Session A on May 19, 2017.  Friday, May 19 is a GAP designated Transfer session for students in the College of Agriculture, Health & Natural Resources, the School of Business, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
  4. The online orientation portal where you submit your orientation reservation has the most up-to-date information regarding session availability for your school/college.
  5. The orientation portal is an entirely automated system, so the sessions listed in your orientation portal reservation form are dates that are currently available and eligible for you to sign up for.
  6. The only way to sign up for an orientation session is online.
  7. June 15 is the deadline to sign up for an orientation session.

Transfermation is when transfer students register for classes. New students cannot register for classes without attending an orientation session. 

  1. Transfermation sessions for the fall 2017 program can be found below.  Students who pay the $300 enrollment deposit will receive an email directing them to sign up for an orientation session. These emails will start to be sent to deposited students starting in mid-April.
  2. Login to the online orientation portal at that time and access your online Transfermation reservation form. The site where you submit your Transfermation reservation has the most up-to-date information regarding session availability.  The only sessions that you will be able to see on your online reservation form are the ones still open for your school/college.  If you cannot see one of your session options it means thay session reached its capacity and is closed to any more reservations.
  3. On your reservation form you will reach a section called “Dates” where your school/college will meet to register new students.  You should select a session where your school/college meets.

Reservation Notes

GAP Students

Students accepted into the UConn Guaranteed Admissions Program or GAP should make their Transfermation reservation for Session A on Friday, May 19.  In order to make a reservation for that date the GAP student needs to call the Orientation office at  (860) 486-4866 (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) when he/she receives their UConn email invitation to sign up for Transfermation.  (Orientation email invitations will start to be sent in mid-April.  The email invitation will be sent to the student’s personal email address which is the address put on the admissions application.)    The Orientation office will then help facilitate registration for Session A.  This is for GAP students in the College of Agriculture, Health & Natural Resources, in the School of Business and in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and it is for the May 19th session (Session A) ONLY.

If you were admitted to this college, you will need to select your Transfermation session based on your major. Majors for CLAS are broken into two divisions (see below).
