Orientation for Spring 2017 International Students – Sign up Begins in Mid-November
|ORIENTATION IS MANDATORY: All first time degree seeking students attending the University of Connecticut at Storrs are required to attend an Orientation session in order to register for classes.
If you have been accepted to the University of Connecticut and will be starting classes in January, the spring Orientation program has been designed for you.

This program is a fast-paced, one-day session that runs from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During Orientation, you will be on campus in an Orientation group with other new students. Each group is led by an Orientation Leader. You will will meet with an academic advisor, register for classes, learn what needs to be done before the spring semester begins, and attend some sessions that are mandatory for new students at the university.
This program is for new students only.
There are no parent Orientation programs offered during the spring Orientation period. Parent Orientation programs are offered during the Mid-May through Mid-July phase of Orientation only.
Cost to Attend
The cost of the one-day program is $115.00.

Charge pays for:
- Orientation materials
- Lunch in a dining hall
- Program Staffing
- Programmatic and administrative expenses.
All forms of payment must be from a United States affiliated bank.
NOTE: Payment of an Orientation reservation secures the reservation for the desired date. If payment is not made at the time the reservation form is completed the date is still open for other students to reserve. That means your Orientation date can be taken away from you by another student who pays for the session.
There are three options for payment:
- Credit Card – online – through the orientation portal. Orientation Services accepts: Mastercard, Visa, Discover, American Express, Diners Club
- Check or money order – mailed/postal service – all checks and money orders need to be made out to the “University of Connecticut.” For our mailing address, please visit our Contact Us page. A $25 fee will be charged for returned checks.
- Western Union – To use Western Union as your payment option please visit our Western Union page.

Mandatory Review of F-1/J-1 Regulations
Students who attend Orientation must also attend the Mandatory Review of F-1/J-1 Student Visa Regulations session, which will occur on January 16, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the International Student & Scholar Services Office (ISSS) located on the first floor of McMahon Residence Hall. Your Orientation leader will take you to this session if you will be studying on an F1 visa.
Healthcare & Immunizations
For more information on immunization and healthcare requirements please visit Student Health Services immunizations page. It is imperative that new International students submit their completed Health History form before the January 1, 2017 deadline or class registration can be effected.
Traveling to Storrs
Students attending Orientation should fly into Bradley International Airport (airport code: BDL). You can arrange for airport shuttle transportation from Bradley to the University at Department of Transportation Services.
For more information on traveling to the University of Connecticut at Storrs from other airports in New York City or Boston, please visit International Students & Scholar Services. If you do not land at Bradley International Airport, you are responsible for finding transportation to the University.
Confirming Your Session
An email confirmation will be sent almost instantaneously after you submit your orientation reservation. This email indicates you are “confirmed” for the session you selected. Emails are sent to both your personal email address that the University has on file for you, and your UConn email address. Please check both email accounts for your Orientation confirmation.
Please contact the Office of Orientation Services at (860) 486-4866 if you have not received your email confirmation within 24 hours of submitting your online Orientation reservation. You should also check your SPAM and JUNK MAIL folders.
Do not make any travel arrangements until you receive an email from the Office of Orientation Services confirming your assigned Orientation session.
